Starting this month, a huge “Olmec head” named Tlali, will replace Christopher Columbus’ statue on one of Mexico City’s most famous avenues. Tlali means “Earth” in Nahuatl (Mexico’s original language still spoken by about 1.6 million people) was created by sculptor Pedro Reyes.

A partir de este mes, Tlali, que significa “tierra” en Náhuatl, sustituirá a la estatua de Cristóbal Colón ubicada sobre el famoso Paseo de la Reforma en la Ciudad de México. La enorme “cabeza olmeca estilizada” fue  esculpida por Pedro Reyes.
