ENGLISH

The northwestern Mexican states of Sonora and Sinaloa, as well as the cities of Mexicali, Tampico and Torreon have historically welcomed Chinese immigrants to live there. The Chinese communities have usually been prosperous ones but it hasn’t been an easy job. There have been cultural, climatological (as seen in the movie SONORA), economical and even xenophobic challenges! A few days ago, Mexico’s president offered a public apology to the Chinese-Mexican community for the 1911 massacre in the city of Torreon just as the Mexican Revolution was beginning. This is a good symbol for Mexico’s tolerance and multicultural integration!

Miss Universe 2020 or 2021? Miss Mexico won Miss Universe for the third time in the pageant’s history. Andrea Meza, from the northern state of Chihuahua won in Hollywood, Florida since the last time that Mexico won in 2010 with Ximena Navarrete. The first Mexican to win the pageant was Lupita Jones 30 years ago in 1991. Below, Andrea wears as the National Costume an “Alebrije” from the southern state of Oaxaca. Alebrijes comes from the mind of Pedro Linares, a folk artist who saw alebrijes in his dreams many years ago. Today, alebrijes are colorful crafts sold around most markets in Mexico.

¿Miss Universo 2020 o 2021?
