The first time I heard of the San Francisco Cave paintings in South Baja California was in 1998 when I watched Carlos Bolado’s movie “Bajo California: The Limit of Time” staring Mexico’s leading actor Damian Alcazar. It took almost 30 years for me to finally visit this mystic, majestic and spiritual place and the reason was to celebrate my 60th birthday contemplating these magnificent works of prehistoric art! It is believed that the Cochimi people painted them around 7,500 years ago reflecting the interaction between humans and the land and water animals the live in the Baja peninsula!

La primera vez que supe de las pinturas rupestres en las Cuevas de San Francisco fue en 1998 cuando vi la película de Carlos Bolado “Bajo California el límite del tiempo” protagonizada por el galardonado actor Damián Alcázar. Me tomó casi 30 años visitarlas pero justamente tomé la decisión de hacerlo para recibir mi cumpleanos 60 contemplando la majestuosidad de las pinturas y el misticismo detrás de cada figura animal o humana. Se cree que fueron los extintos indígenas Cochimíes los que las pintaron hace más de 7,500 años inmortalizando la fauna terrestre y acuática de la península de Baja California.
