Mexico is happy about Sergio “Checo” Perez recent Formula 1 victory in Monaco. The 32 year old pilot from Guadalajara couldn’t hold his tears when he heard the Mexican National Anthem. Best of luck in the coming races Checo!

One of Mexico’s most famous divas during the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema was Maria Felix. She was born in the northwestern state of Sonora on April 8th, 1914 and she died on April 8th, 2002 at the age of 88 years old. Do you think this Mexican diva programed her mind to leave this world and immortalize her image on the same day that she was born?

I love the performance of Coldplay’s song MY UNIVERSE given by the Ukrainian children choir COLOR MUSIC. One of Mexico’s most famous scientists, Marcos Moshinsky, was born in Ukraine and immigrated to our country at age 3. His studies focused on Quantum Physics…a necessary tool to understand the universe. Through music and science…let’s connect with OUR UNIVERSE 🤓 !

Two great Mexican celebrities passed away recently: Carmen Salinas, a very famous comedian and Vicente Fernandez, Mexico’s most famous folk singer. Salinas was born in northern Mexico in 1939 in the city of Torreon and Fernandez was born in Western Mexico in 1940 in the state of Jalisco. May them rest in peace.

ENGLISH

The most famous citizen from the state of Durango is definetly Pancho Villa (whose real name was Doroteo Arango). Durango City has a very interesting museum dedicated to the life of this important revolutionary leader who fought during the Mexican Revolution (the first social revolution during the 20th Century).

Chinese immigrants in Mexico

ENGLISH

The northwestern Mexican states of Sonora and Sinaloa, as well as the cities of Mexicali, Tampico and Torreon have historically welcomed Chinese immigrants to live there. The Chinese communities have usually been prosperous ones but it hasn’t been an easy job. There have been cultural, climatological (as seen in the movie SONORA), economical and even xenophobic challenges! A few days ago, Mexico’s president offered a public apology to the Chinese-Mexican community for the 1911 massacre in the city of Torreon just as the Mexican Revolution was beginning. This is a good symbol for Mexico’s tolerance and multicultural integration!
