The below photos translate into the following:

  1. “We come to this World with nothing and we will leave with nothing. Everything in life is borrowed except the things we live, share, love, laugh, dance, enjoy.”
  2. “Enjoy life now…we will have enough time to rest in peace.”

In mid October 1968 Mexico became the first developing country to host the Olympic Games. It was a happy moment for our nation. However, 1968 was also a “revolutionary” year around the world where many countries had student protests, including Mexico. Unfortunately on October 2, 1968 our country experienced a very sad moment 10 days previous to the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. Each year we commemorate in Mexico the students who lost their lives defending their ideals which transformed Mexican society.

Two Mexican films do well at the 77th Venice International Film Festival.

“New Order” is a film by Mexican movie director Michel Franco that won the Grand Jury Prize in Venice. The story deals with the social class differences in Mexico.

Yulene Olaizola’s story “Tragic Jungle” takes place in the 1920’s in the Mexican-Belizean jungle where gum workers encounter a mysterious woman who could be the mythical Xtabay.

ENGLISH
Carlos Villatoro was one of the most famous actors during the Mexican Silent Movie Era in the 1920’s. He left his home state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico, early in his life and on his way to Canada an unexpected train stop in New York City changed his life forever introducing him to the world of acting. He was also an important part of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema in the 1940’s. A true pioneer!

ENGLISH
Every year on August 15th, Mexico celebrates “Mexican Movies Day”. Since yesterday Channel 22 (Mexican Culture Channel) has been playing CALL ME MIKE (Llámenme Mike), a black humor comedy which was forbidden several years in our country during the 1980’s due to its focus on corruption. Channel 22 will broadcast this movie today August 16th at 3:30 pm CST on its international channel (if you live in Mexico it will be at 2:30pm CST on the national channel). Sasha Montenegro was born in Italy but her parents came from Montenegro, hence her artistic surname. Her real name is Sasha Aćimović Popović. Alejandro Parodi won 4 Ariel Awards (the Mexican Oscar) during his life. He was born in the northwestern state of Sonora yet his family name is Italian.
