There is a Mexican comedy that reflects what just started in Mexico: The Guadalupe-Reyes Marathon. During the next weeks, Mexican people will celebrate the following holidays:

December 12: Lady of Guadalupe Day

December 16-24: The 9 Traditional Posada Parties

December 24: Christmas Eve

December 25: Christmas

December 28: Holy Innocent’s Day (akin April Fool’s)

December 31: New Year’s Eve

January 1: New Year’s Day

January 6: Three Wise Man Day (Reyes Magos)

Farewell to Carmen Salinas & Vicente Fernandez

Two great Mexican celebrities passed away recently: Carmen Salinas, a very famous comedian and Vicente Fernandez, Mexico’s most famous folk singer. Salinas was born in northern Mexico in 1939 in the city of Torreon and Fernandez was born in Western Mexico in 1940 in the state of Jalisco. May them rest in peace.

México pierde a dos grandes pilares del mundo del espectáculo: a la comediante norteña Carmen Salinas nacida en la ciudad de Torreón en 1939 y al Charro de Huentitán, Vicente Fernández nacido en el estado de Jalisco en 1940. Descansen en paz.

Pancho Villa Museum

ENGLISH

The most famous citizen from the state of Durango is definetly Pancho Villa (whose real name was Doroteo Arango). Durango City has a very interesting museum dedicated to the life of this important revolutionary leader who fought during the Mexican Revolution (the first social revolution during the 20th Century).

El duranguense más famoso de México es sin duda alguna Doroteo Arango mejor conocido como Pancho Villa. La ciudad de Durango cuenta con un impresionante museo dedicado a la vida y trayectoria del “Centauro del Norte” y su papel en la Revolución Mexicana (la primera del siglo XX).

On October 15th a great yet very humble Mexican left this World: Alfredo Lopez Austin. He became one of the top anthropologists in Mexico.

El 15 de octubre se nos fue un gran y sencillo mexicano, Don Alfredo López Austin, sabio norteño que se enamoró de la cultura mesoamericana convirtiéndose en uno de los principales antropólogos de nuestro país.

ENGLISH

Starting this month, a huge “Olmec head” named Tlali, will replace Christopher Columbus’ statue on one of Mexico City’s most famous avenues. Tlali means “Earth” in Nahuatl (Mexico’s original language still spoken by about 1.6 million people) was created by sculptor Pedro Reyes.

ESPAÑOL

A partir de este mes, Tlali, que significa “tierra” en Náhuatl, sustituirá a la estatua de Cristóbal Colón ubicada sobre el famoso Paseo de la Reforma en la Ciudad de México. La enorme “cabeza olmeca estilizada” fue  esculpida por Pedro Reyes.

Mexico ranked 20th at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games!

ENGLISH

Mexico’s paralympic athletes won a total of 22 medals for our country placing at 20th place amongst all the nations competing. There were 7 gold medals, 2 silver and 13 bronze medals. Congratulations to these outstanding human beings!

ESPAÑOL

Los atletas paralímpicos mexicanos ganaron para México 22 medallas en los Juegos Paralímpicos de Tokio 2020 (7 de ellas de oro, 2 de plata y 13 de bronce) superando su actuación en Rio de Janeiro 2016 y quedando en 20avo lugar en el medallero. ¡Enhorabuena por estos sobresalientes seres humanos!
